Dean Graziosi Weekly Wisdom #216 - Success By Being Unlucky

Do you ever wish your “luck” was better? That fate would just drop a big, juicy helping of universal favor on you? Most people have wished for that. However in this, the first Weekly Wisdom of 2013, Dean gives you a little lesson about why being "lucky" is overated and being "unlucky" could be the GREATEST place to be. Sound confusing? Well, it won't be after you hear his message.

By the way, be sure to watch the goal setting video from a few weeks ago is right here if you want to watch it after this video.

Success By Being Unlucky

Hi Dean,

Believe it or not.....I never thought, or think any of this is luck....It's hard work......

If this was easy everyone would be doing it.....

As you said " It's Simple......Not Easy "

As the saying goes...." Your luck is what you make it"....Hard work will produce the " Good Luck " that we all seek....

Happy New Year 2013

Sharon

Hey Dean, Happy New Year from the ODD COUPLE, Jan and Jeremy. Hey if it wasn't for bad luck we would have no luck at all. Both Jeremy and I have had our share. Jeremy lost his mom while we were in Phoenix taping with you. I lost my job soon after. We have had more deals go bad than I have had glasses of wine. Luck is what you make of it. On the lucky side we continue to build quite an empire here in Upstate New York.
Our luck was meeting you and becoming successful.
Hard, Hard work is what brings you luck and success...Jan and Jeremy

Happy New Year Dean!

I just have to say that I for one am so happy that you chose to go down the road and path of REI. You have put yourself out there and done the hard work. I believe it was in God's divine plan that you would serve as a beacon or a lighthouse of hope for so many of us to follow. You put in a lot of hard work and we are grateful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and 2013 here we come. This was a very good weekly wisdom!

I personally don't believe

bamagirl6730's picture

I personally don't believe in luck. Like you said we create our own 'luck' (I prefer to say outcomes). Think it simply comes down to responsibility. When someone says "Oh you were just lucky" it translates in my mind as they just said or meant to say: "You decided to take responsibility for your own life, you decided to change your situation, you worked your a$$ off to get where you are, you were willing to sacrifice and go through the pain to get to where you are. So I decided to complain instead of take action, I punked out so instead of taking responsibility, I'd rather blame someone else for my misfortune that I'm experiencing because of the crappy choices I've made. I'll just say you were 'lucky' so I still don't have to take responsibility and it doesn't hurt as bad coming off the tongue! Saying you're lucky is easier than me saying I'm a loser."
Harsh I know -- but strikes a cord with me too! Yeah, it's insulting. Just have to remind myself to check the source, if it doesn't line up.....dismiss it! Most comments like that are stemmed from ignorance, jealousy or misery.

Good luck/Bad luck -- When you blame, pass the buck, play the victim, don't own up or take responsibility for EVERYTHING good or bad that's going on in your life -- you give away your power! The Power to Change it! The Power to Create something different! Even if it's a poor outcome, you can change it by making better choices. So to me the word 'luck' equals: the current evidence of all the choices you have made or didn't make up to this point. Somewhere along the course of your life you could have taken the right instead of the left in the fork in the road, could have listened to your gut, heeded the warning signs but you chose to ignore - so now we find ourselves in what most call Bad Luck. NOPE---the 'bad luck' was simply the Effect of the choices or responses you did or didn't make. You've just found yourself the product of your own creation!

It's a numbers game. It all is. How many times to play the lotto before you hit, How many failures to you get a success, How many no's you have to go through to get the yes, How many offers you have to submit to get one accepted. Some may ask: "Well how many banks do I have to call before I find one?? Answer: As many as it takes to get the answer/result you are looking for! Quit counting the cost and do the work!

Bad luck -- own up to your screw up....make better choices! Learn from it and begin again!
Do the work -- get lucky! Smiling

You ever notice that the last six letters in the word Satisfaction are A-C-T-I-O-N!?!?

Dean,

Well said! Everyone creates their own luck...good or bad, just depends on their own action or inaction.

Happy New Year to you & your family!

Success From Being Unlucky

Happy new year everyone .Personally I don't believe in luck either
The one who feels unlucky, who feels like an outcast and it looks like nothing good has ever come to you . That is the one that God chooses to lift up out of the dungeon.Dont give up because the best is yet to come.

Have you ever

SouthsideJohnny's picture

Have you ever had those days when you felt like Lucky...the One-Eyed, One-Eared, Three-legged dog? I would think most of us probably have. If you haven't; well, great for you!

I've definitely had MORE than my fare share! And yes; I can say that they were all a product of my own action, lack thereof, or the choices I did or didn't make.

But, you know what? I'll bet even Lucky...the One-Eyed, One-Eared, Three legged dog can still see, hear, and run like the wind!! Never saw a three-legged dog that couldn't get around with the best of them!

If Lucky can do it; then so can I, and so can YOU!! I don't know about you, but "same 'ole - same 'ole" doesn't live here anymore! GET UP! Begin again...learn from your mistakes! Change your circumstances by making the changes and tough choices necessary to fulfill YOUR destiny! It belongs to YOU!

Now; time to finish setting my goals for 2013!

Here's to a great week and a Happy New Year! Eye-wink

i don't believe in luck. i believe you create your luck. i look at myself and in just about all the "bad luck" that came my way i could've done something about it and don't have to go far to find the culprit. i just look in the mirror. i can't change the past, but i'm determined to change my future. this year my hope is for all of us here at dg and dgie is to be "luck creators". we have the knowledge and the power.
keep moving forward, rob

The nail on the head!

Magarahan's picture

You hit the nail on the head, “you’re so lucky” is one of the biggest insults you can get. You didn’t get where you are by being lucky. You didn’t get there by “chance”.
It was as you said, “hard work, determination, overcoming my fears…all the things that I teach you every week in this weekly wisdom, overcoming obstacles, getting rid of negative people, going on a news diet, knowing my reason why”. That’s what got you where you are today and now you share that plan with us in not just in your weekly wisdom broadcast but in so many different ways.
Thank you.

God bless you.

Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year,

Mike & Mary

Happy New Year to you!!

Thank you for being part of my 2012! Let us enjoy 2013 doing what God is blessing!

Thanks, Dean, for this vid.

pandpvinc's picture

Thanks, Dean, for this vid. It helps to hear that there have been other people dealing with loneliness and depression, even as I get ready to start on my fourth year without any success. I'll keep trying...

As luck would have it!

Enjoyed the thoughtful insight - have heard the expression, "you are so lucky" too. So right, has taken a lot of work to get where I am and have much more to accomplish, so goals are formed and onway and upward I go!!!

Hard Work

Hard work and persistence is absolutely what it is called. I also call it "Dean's realm of positive thinking." I have learned so much from you in the last few months. We have access to so much, it is just a matter of using it. You have built an empire.

Yes, there are the nay sayers. I shared what I was doing with my sister and she tells me " I won't believe it til I see it." I called my Realtor whom assisted me in purchasing my house with a double closing from an investor and asked for a list of houses that were selling as is, we're vacant and had a price reduction. It has been over 4 days and she has not sent me any listings. Of course, this is not holding me back. I continue to look up and go see houses on my own. Then yesterday, I receive an e-mail from a Realtor asking "Is there anything I can do to help?" I am now going to work with this Realtor. I receive over 95% of my positive reinforcement from this site.

Dean thank you for sharing what is important in life and all you have accomplished throughout the years. Have a wonderful New Year! Gloria

Luck?

Jimi K.'s picture

Luck is being in the right place at the right time... How much risk are you going to take? How many times are you going to take a chance in spite of the odds? In spite of failure how many times are you going to pick yourself up and try again? How much do you want a better life? What are you willing to sacrifice to put yourself in position to take advantage of opportunity? How many times will you attempt to put yourself in the right place at the right time?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Carol Stinson's picture

I define luck as something that happens to you without much effort on your part, something that pops into your life by chance.

When something comes about by hard work, dedication and commitment it is not luck but accomplishment Smiling

I wish you and your family an amazing New Year! Thanks for all of your inspiration in 2012~

Luck :)

Hi Dean,

I believe that U and all of us at some point in time should have luck - Pay it Forward...

Im lucky to learn this RE investing, cause if luck was easy than here is something to look at .. where can you offer anyone 30% to 50% below FMV for something that we all Need and Want and make a small profit.. or even better yet to control the home only by a signature..

Now how is that for some luck..

Happy New Year to all and make this year your year
and for DG thank you for the inspiration every week that you take the time to say you can do it, cause you know what we can do it cause its the first deal that we have to overcome, after that the sky is your limit?

LUCK?

CandC's picture

Dean success does come by effort. But I could say it was luck that I came across you. I was not up late at night worry and saw and infomercial. I was going through a hard time and didn't know if I should go bankrupt, forclosure or short sale. I went to see an attourney who told me to pull my credit scores. Then with Equifax came David Bach, who invited all his students to watch the RBBP. That was my first time I ever heard of you. I joined in and have had several events to follow. Have not done a deal yet but I know this year will be the year, with effort and persistance. Thanks for sharing your good times and bad times, and for the energy to keep us going. How could we loose with you in our faces everyday? THANKS AND HAVE A BLESSED NEW YEAR!

IN YOUR FACE

CandC's picture

Dean just a thought, when I gave birth to our third child I had complications and lost a lot of blood. When I got up for the first time I was real dizzy and light headed. I almost passed out if it were not for the nurse who got in my face to tell me to breath and helped me back to bed.
Thanks for helping us keep focused and to put the oxygen mask on first so we may help others. Thanks for the examples you teach us by doing.

Hard Work, Determination, Persistence, Endurance

Great Message Dean. The attributes above are required for success, mixed with getting the right education, wisdom and advise. Luck is the villian's ploy.
I love my DGFam. Let's push to greater victories in 2013.
Happy New Year all.

No such thing as "luck"!

jeannieo's picture

As far as I'm concerned, there is no such thing as "luck"! Everyone has choices to make in life. We determine our outcome by those choices! We also have to remember that the overall control is God. He is still in control of what goes on in this world, but He does allow us free choice. So that is why some people make wrong choices and then blame everything and everyone around them for their "bad luck". We just need to learn to trust God to help us make those good choices!

Happy New Year to everyone!

Luck's when you guess the right amount of jelly beans in the jar

shinton's picture

People that understand this concept know that success is not luck....it's knowledge and hard work with a positive attitude. Bad luck is just a challenge we overcome and learn from - that builds wisdom. Applying this to everyday living while we're helping others makes the journey of life worth it.

Luck

Hard work, creativity and being able to think outside the box has always been my definition of what people call luck.
After lots of creative work, I closed on my first deal 2 days ago and walked away with $8000 in my pocket. Not a bad way to end the year. This $8000 is going straight into my next deal, which I'm targeting for the first week of February.
Thanks for the motivation and advice Dean, it has helped me to stay centered when things got tough this year.
Happy New Year everyone.
Clark, UT.

Dean this is such a wonderful message and I can't agree more. You know someone once said, "when you want something you've never had, then you must do something you've never done". Well Dean, I'm going to do something I've never done which is finish your books. This is my goal for 2013. I'm making my own luck.
