Hello All
I spent Friday and Saturday with a group of fellow Entrepreneurs brainstorming about how we can continue to help others achieve their goals while expanding our businesses.
It was truly life changing for so many reasons. There were so many amazing topics, but I wanted to at least share a few of them with you.
It's 12:15 AM Sunday and I am typing on my lap top while sitting on my bed and I am reflecting back on what was discussed.
The subject line was "Are you lucky or a fool" because it was a phrase I brought up that nearly every other entrepreneur understood and had the same experience.
You see in middle school I sold bubble gum. In high school I sold firewood by the cord. Right out of high school I fixed wrecked cars and sold them for a profit.
Then not that much after - before the age of 20 - I knocked on enough doors to finally get in my first real estate deal. Now there is an entire story on how that all happened being broke and no education. But that is for another story.
Then after a great run of success starting from nothing I decided I wanted to try sharing my story and my strategies on TV.. Boy, did I bomb at first and had no clue what I was doing. But obviously I stuck with it;-)
Ok why did I share that and what am I getting at?
Well at every level of trying something new. From bubble gum to firewood. From Cars to Real Estate. From real estate to books and TV - If I tried something new and failed, like I did many times - friends and even family would say I was foolish for trying something outside the normal -
And even worse - if I tried something outside what others would think is the "norm" and succeeded then I was just lucky. Sound familiar?
Here is what I realized today brainstorming with 15 other very successful entrepreneurs (Who most if not all started with nothing) is that everyone of them faced the same exact situations.
Who is making you feel like a fool? Who in your life thinks that trying something new, outside the box can't work for you? Who is stealing your dreams? Identify them and create a smart barrier that protects your dreams.
Here is what I know. Others get uncomfortable with you trying for success if they are not ready to make a move on their own. So it is easier for them to keep you where you are then for them to move.
I share this with you because even with all the real estate knowledge in the world, if you don't have faith in yourself, or you let popular opinion get you off track you will never be able to reach your full potential. And you deserve to look in the mirror and see the best you.
Be strong, be brave, be all you can be.. And most of all if the people around you start calling you a fool or lucky. Take it as a compliment - you are on your way;-)))
I though it was important that I share that with you..
Have a wonderful week
Best
Dean
P.S. There were some amazing people in that group. One invited guest to listen in because she is looking to try and help people in need on a monster scale was Paula Abdul. You may know her from American Idol or a singer from the 80's. But I got to meet the real person who is an over achiever, who worked her tail off and overcame a boatload of naysayers in her life.
I just want you to know I have been lucky enough to meet people like Paula, Richard Branson the Billionaire, Michael Jordan, Joel Osteen, Bill Clinton and many others you would know. And guess what... None of them were born under a lucky star, none of them were without obstacles, failures, hardship and so many things that should have told them to give up. They were not fools, they were not lucky, they were determined and decided to go for it.. It's your turn....

Thank you for your continued inspiration. I am a very determined person and reading this helps me stay focused. I am sure it will help some people who may have lost some of their focus.
Thank you so much for sharing with us! It will MOST DEFINITELY inspire all of us to go to that next level! How true, We are not "lucky" and we are not "fools". We may feel foolish at times ( ), but NOTHING is beyond our grasp if we believe in ourselves and continue to strive to make a difference like you have. There are some things that money can't buy, and those are the most precious and rewarding. Thank you for giving us the inspiration to always strive to be MORE! (we promise to keep moving the bar higher!)
very grateful,
Rina

Good Morning, I just got done reading your post. Funny because I ran into it last nite while we were having some wine with friends, and these are close friends, almost family. They asked me how my investing was going and I told them we are doing great, but always looking for deals. They then asked why they haven't seen me in the commercial that I was suppose to be in and I said it hadn't aired on TV yet. Jokes were made and I kind of rolled other comments off my back but gritting my teeth and looking at my wife she could tell I was reaching the boiling point.
The point I am trying to make here is that even though Jeremy and I are on our way to our dreams and hitting bumps in the road along the way, people know that we are successful and continue to make strides. I could see the jealousy in their comments and they weren't happy because of our success. It is too bad that people will knock you when you are on your way up the ladder and will take shots at you when you are at the top. I know that our new students face this every day, and I can only tell them to keep their eye on their success, which is soon to follow....Jan
PS--Even the wine they provided last night tasted bitter like their attitudes.
What an inspiration. Thanks a lot Dean. LA
Everytime you repeat the words "I CAN DO IT" with conviction, you cancel or override your fear and increase your confidence. By repeating this affirmation over and over, you can eventually build your courage and confidence to the point where you are unafraid. -Brian Tracy-
Thanks Dean for sharing this with all of us. I love when you jump on the forum
Many said that I was a Lucky Fool at one time to. But now that I am on my way to the top and making more money than they are I must ask...NOW WHO'S THE FOOL?

Some of you from the Phoenix Metro area may recognize this. Some years ago while still living in Mesa AZ, I read an article in the Republic. Now this is not exactly how it went but the gist of it was; The reporter had interviewed 6 people who were in essence Millionares, all were "self made", the first 3 said the standard "hard work" yadda yadda (yawn). The 4th guy finally had something to say. If everyone who had ever worked hard had made a lot of money, then anyone who'd dug a ditch would be a millionare, the reality is; people who have become millionares are people who have taken advantage of an opportunity and run with it. WE are presented with opportunities everyday. It is up to us to recognize an opportunity and use it to the best advantage. You'll notice I said the "best" advantage not our own advantage.
Your words and your example always inspire me.
Cheryl
Thanks Dean for your words of inspiration. It was just a few hours ago that I heard a good message reminding the listeners that all things are possible to them that believe. Its awesome to know that whenever someone has faced a difficult time during their struggles in life that we can find such moving words as yours to encourage us. I heard someone share a true fact which goes like this - "NO TEST, NO TESTIMONY". My testimony is that through faith and persistance, I have arrived and succeeded. Thank you Dean.
Thanks for sharing such wonderful thoughts and inspirations. We learn so much by listening to the stories of other successful people.
Dean you are amazing. Thank You

It is so good to hear from you Dean! It is always great when we hear from our mentor and leader. Thank you for sharing your amazing and inspirational story.
I wish I could have been in that group of 15. They are all leaders and have much knowledge to share.
"THE ARCHITECT OF YOUR DESTINY IS YOURSELF"
"SUCCESS WALKS HAND IN HAND WITH FAILURE"
Thank you so much Dean for these constant words of inspiration and encouragement. It goes along with something else I've been learning and that is do what others are not doing; Be a 2% (two percenter) and not a 98%. I printed this from my email and will read it daily.
On the part about being lucky; I tried to share Chip and Andrea's story with my dad recently about the 2 houses and all that but all he said was, "Oh they got lucky." I said no they worked hard and had to learn skills. People just don't get it. My own family is the toughest group ever and I hear that from many on hear that deals with the same. You can't very well get rid of them and I do love them. Anyway great post; always love to hear from you.
Many blessings to you,
Cathy
Thanks for sharing this inspiring message. It could not have come @ a better time!
You gave me even more inspiration today!

Thank you so much Dean for an inspiring message. That was deep!

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that frightens us. Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.”

Very encouraging! Thanks for inspiring us. Again, this is a numbers game with real estate. There have been times where I have put in over 50 offers. People give up after putting in 5 offers. I am a full time investor now and I am enjoying every bit of it.

Thanks so much for your constant and faithful encouragement to all of us to have faith and confidence in accomplishing our dreams. You speak with such authority as you have been there and done it. I would like to be like you on my way to reach my dream and when I reach it and beyond, i.e. to help others to reach their dreams and full potential, just like you have been doing for us all this time.
Again thanks & God bless you,

Hi Dean,
yes, those friends of mine who scoffed before I made a couple deals - eating their words - I must admit satisfying to watch. One is saying I was LUCKY - ha! we'll see because I am not done yet!!!! You know, I never was an enterpauner, always played it safe. Gosh it feels great to be out of the box!
Blessings & Favor,
Gena.

This reminds me of a lot of times in my life. I managed to get a chance to work on computers in the Unix field without a college degree. How did I do it? I was willing to do what others would not. Graveyard shifts, on call 24 hours, taking the training, etc. all led to me "succeeding". Many of my former collegues said "You were lucky". I was not lucky, I worked my tail off and gave up a lot. Now I am starting that cycle over again and having to remember who I was when I did that. It is so nice to start to feel that pulse again of when I was living life to the razors edge. You know, everybody will say it was luck when it is cleverly disguised as work.
Thanks Dean for your words they always inspire me.
Dean,
Thanks for the post but you made me think about all the highs and lows and the peaks and valleys in this industry.
Being someone who has owned a lot of other businesses in my lifetime and always having to be creative and thinking "outside" the box, I do believe that Real Estate is the most challenging and the most rewarding business that I been in.
The finding of a property (the hunt), the offer (the challenge) and the acceptance (the reward) has been the goal of any real estate investor.
I do believe that going by the words of "Work Smarter not Harder" is a great way to always start your day.
Thank-you so much for all you do and the DG family.
It has been great to see and read what others have done and are going through.
The questions that people ask us the investors so you know that they are really intune with what you are trying to accomplish and the help they are willing to ask for. It is great! Love to help anyone if I can.
The stories are so helpful and the experiences that everyone shares really has taught me a lot of what can be achieved in the Real Estate World.
Here's to everyone's great success!!!
Dean,
Thank you so much for sharing with us! There are so many Naysayer around us, but I will not be one of them!!!
Great post

Wow, makes you think a bit. Doing the right thing for the right reason is the way to go. The adventure is an incredible byproduct also.
I second that, All the naysayers in my life make me push harder even more to make it happen.
Thanks Dean.
Thanks for sharing this information with us. It is often a great feeling of energy in a room where all members come together to help each other improve and move to the next level. It makes everyone betetr at what they do. In life we face many challenges and obstacles but how we get through those determine who we are or will become.
Your story made me remember my early business ventures from selling Kool-aid in the summer, to shoveling snow in the winter, having paper routes, lawn mowing, washing mobile homes, washing and waxing cars, painting, promoting collectible shows, buying and selling on Craigslist and eBay, and the true passion of real estate investing. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to get to the next level and have a greater appreciation when you work hard and make your own opportunitites. Thanks again for the insight.
